10 Housework Hacks for the Tired & Unmotivated

After a busy day, house chores are the last thing we want to do – BUT a clean house feels so good. It’s a constant battle. However, through trial and error I have discovered hacks to get my chores done fast! Read on for my best tips to minimize your chore time and maximize your relaxing time!

Take 5 minutes to clean each area/room of your home. It’s amazing how much you can get done in five minutes! Time yourself for that extra push!

Tip – If you cannot bring yourself to do ANY housework, clean for two minutes in one room. If after two minutes you want to stop, stop. The hardest part is getting started.

Keep a hamper for clean clothes

I feel we all have days where we try on on every article of clothing in our closet looking for the perfect outfit.

Instead of leaving a tornado zone of clothes crumpled on the floor, put them in a designated clean hamper and then when you have five minutes later that day or on the weekend, put them away. That way your clothes don’t need to be rewashed and you can keep the clothing clutter at bay.

Do a load of Laundry Everyday

Piles and piles of weekend laundry can be daunting and time consuming. If you do small loads everyday it’s much more manageable.

Wipe down kitchen and bathroom surfaces with disinfectant wipes.

I don’t always want to do a full kitchen and bathroom clean everyday like my mother….instead I make sure to wipe down bathroom and kitchen surfaces with a disinfectant wipe (Lysol products are typically my go to). It freshens everything up and allows you to save time when you’re doing a full clean as it’s not as grungy.

Run Your Dishwasher Every Day

Run your dishwasher every night and unload every morning or before dinner time. It makes cleaning your kitchen very fast and easy after eating. Less dishes to wash when there is copious dishwasher space!

Vacuum and mop on days you are off work or home for the day. If you absolutely have no energy for a full house sweep, just do your entry way, kitchen and living room.

Do a full kitchen clean once a week.

Take a moment to organize your pots and pans and wipe away crumbs in the utensil drawer.

Do a bathroom deep clean once a week

Seeing that you are disinfecting your bathroom with those wipes on a daily, a once a week bathroom clean is perfectly fine!

Tidy up those recyclables

Keep on top of the recyclables so you don’t end up with a mountain of bottles that would definitely please a kids hockey team during their bottle drive. I always feel so great and ready to take on the world when that recyclable clutter is minimized.

Reorganize! Pick a room every three months to tidy. Things get really messy after a few months and keeping on top of the clutter is so good for your mental state.
